Writing
I started my freelance career at the Montreal Mirror and wrote for that publication from 2003 until its demise in 2012. My work includes music criticism, features, travel writing and comments on popular culture. Some recent favourites include a travel piece for the New York Times about Port of Spain, a discussion of running as a means of dealing with infertility, an account of the history leading up to changes in the lyrics of the Canadian national anthem, an argument for the importance of Jamaican singer Marcia Griffiths, a questioning of Gimlet Media’s focus on a CEO accused of sexual harassment, and a discussion of easy listening music in Jamaica, which won a Caribbean Tourism Association Travel Media award.
